Add exFat file system to Ubuntu Linux

Recently, I received a Sandisk Connect Wireless media drive for my birthday. It is a nifty little device and I was ready to load up some content to give it a spin. I connected it to my Ubuntu 12.04 laptop via its micro USB port. Upon connecting it, I received the error message that the OS was unable to mount the file system - Error mounting: mount: Unknown file system type 'exfat'.

Fortunately, there exists a PPA to solve this problem:

Windows 8 Requires Extended Activation for Single Re-Install

I decided to transition my laptop from Windows 8 Pro to Ubuntu Linux. I figured that I would just re-install Windows as a virtual guest under VMware Workstation. Unlike my experiences with prior versions of Windows, I was directed to call Microsoft for further activation and report 9 groupings of 7 digit numbers. This was after supplying my product key. After telling the automated attendant my numbers, I was asked to enter 8 sets of 6 digit numbers.

HP Pavilion dv7 WiFi Issue After Resume From Suspend (SOLVED)

There is still an issue with the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 adapter and resuming from suspend in Ubuntu 13.04. After resuming from a suspended state (eg. re-opening the laptop lid after it had been closed) the wifi adapter is unable to connect to an access point. The following iwlwifi error would show up in dmesg: "fail to flush all tx fifo queues"

I am using kernel version 3.8.0-23.

To solve the problem, edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf and add the following option setting for the iwlwifi module:

Bizarre IE 9 Issue (32 -bit version only)

I encountered a bizarre problem today when working in Windows 7. The 32-bit version of IE 9 stopped resolving DNS. The 64-bit IE 9 compatriot worked fine. Being stumped, I fell back on the following old piece of advice.

open up a command prompt with administrator permissions and issue the following command:

  • netsh winsock reset

After issuing the command, Reboot the PC. Once Windows 7 restarted, viola! IE 9 was functional once again.

Here is a link to the driver: Microsoft SQL Server ODBC driver for Linux

Supported operating systems are 64-bit RedHat Linux 5 and 6. I will be trying this out on CentOS.

Android ADT Setup on CentOS 6.3

When setting up the Android ADT on CentOS 6.3 64-bit (x86_64), it is necessary to include 32-bit libraries. The following command line will ensure the proper libraries are available. The 64-bit libraries are included on the command line even though they will already be installed on the OS.
# yum install glibc.x86_64 glibc.i686 libstdc++.x86_64 libstdc++.i686 ncurses-libs.x86_64 ncurses-libs.i686 zlib.x86_64 zlib.i686
