Upgraded ESXi 3.5 to vSphere ESXi 4

I upgraded my VMware ESXi 3.5 host this afternoon to VMware vSphere ESXi 4.  The process went smoothly.  I am sure that if I had take the time to read release note or some form of technical documentation, thing may have not been as unnerving.  For instance, the VMFS datastores were not added in when the upgraded host came up.  Not a big deal, and only caused a few moments of angst.  Everything was fine, and a simple add storage operation brought all of my VMs back to life.

All in all, a very good experience.

Windows XP Installation

I am putting together an old computer (2.4 GHz P4) to help a relative.  Part of my build is to install Windows XP.  I have license for Windows XP home, but it is SP 1a.  Anyway, this has turned out to be a never-ending series of updates.  After 2 service packs, 63 updates, a new browser install and 5 or 6 reboots, I think that I am getting close to being able to move on to the productivity applications.

Received a Google Wave Invite

I received a Google Wave invitation.  I have been playing with it for a little while.  It seems to have potential, especially when used by developers to collaborate on their projects.  I liken this to the Rational Team Concert application on IBM's Jazz platform.  I know I am missing the bigger picture here, but without a large enough contact list or investing time in trying to mine waves, I don't see the current value in it as a generalized communication platform.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

I picked up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 this evening at the local warehouse club codmw2store.  After a brief detour to attend my nephew's 28th birthday party, I finally made my way home.  I dropped in the DVD and began playing multiplayer immediately on XBox Live.  After a couple of matches, I am hooked.  Looks like it is a

Ubuntu 9.10 on ASUS eeePC 1000HA

I have Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala installed in my ASUS eeePC 1000HA.  So far, this is a significantly better experience than with Jaunty.  The wifi and ACPI integration is much deeper.  Out of the box, I was able to use the wifi hot-key to turn the radio off and on.  Performance is great, even with the integrated Intel graphics.
